The CNC Platform, see a SoftPro pen draw a SoftPro Logo

imageLately I've been building a homemade CNC platform intending to be a light mill / router / printer / laser cutter / fill in the blank. To start its setup to be a CNC Router, which has started to make some parts for itself to increase stiffness. I've made it to the first milestone, a running machine I can control that cuts aluminum to reasonable tolerances.

I put a short video on You Tube of it doing the fun task of sketching a SoftPro Logo using a SoftPro pen.

Vizio SV470XVT1A and Harris TS22 Butt Set, a Good start to the Year.

clip_image001[4]

The last 2 days have been technically a fantastic year.  It started with 2 Harris Butt Sets and ended with a fixed Vizio 47" TV.  I had recently failed a cap replacement on an  Insteon device, so my electronics repair road was on a bad path.  It felt good to relive my roots.

The TV a Vizio SV470XVT1A was an interesting one, it intermittently displayed video, the back lights always worked.  Lots of documented voltages finally lead to a voltage regulator U10 on the daughter board, 0101-4072-0044 which showed a pin hanging at .4 mv when the set failed, and came up to 1.1 mv when it worked.  What a deal, the daughter board is near the cheapest one in the unit.  Amazon had a seller with a used one for $8.

ProForm filtering Lookup tables when updating

clip_image001There are a number of methods to update lookup tables in SoftPro ProForm Classic 15 and 20. Using the normal ProForm interface is the most common. We can't use the asterisk (*) filtering where * is used as a match all filter since the update would put that in the Code field. There is another solution which can also be used to pull a lookup record.

When the Lookup table window displays, begin typing the Lookup Code, the list will rapidly follow along selecting rows as letters are typed. Continue reading

HalFinder, a halFILE Data Conversion

clip_image001I just processed over 1.4 million tiff images into 35 thousand PDF documents in 24 hours. I'm geek excited and wanted to talk about it. A client is expecting to replace halFILE with SPImage, they need a way to access the historical scans without the maintenance and cost of keeping HalFILE running. So a method to search the database and display images was in order. In other words, they need an internal website. Continue reading

Windows 10 install and first run

imageAfter backing up my laptop, I decided to try out Windows 10.  The installation was a little dark at times, nothing being displayed on screen. After successfully completing that I come away with a much better feeling than I did when I tried Windows 8.

The installation seemed to go well, the first login resulted in a black screen with a mouse cursor.  After trying a few things I found, a hard reset brought up a working system.  The VPN might be a little broken.  When copying the Select Client over the VPN,  the transfer rates dropped to zero. To fix it, pausing the copy in Windows 10 and resetting the VPN and resuming the copy got it going. That I found a bit weird, but I liked the pause and resume on a copy.

Hit the brakes, DELAY until October 1st

image

It started in late March, today the brakes are applied, we are now in a delay.  The August 1st deadline for the TRID regulations has been delayed until October 1st. The party line is there was an administrative mistake that was just discovered, in the nick of time. I’m glad that thing showed up. That provides a little relief, not much, sometimes.2 months is a day in development. Here’s what they said,
